Resumo: Leo Kanner was the first person to describe the autism, in 1943, having as main diagnosis criteria the following points: disability for interpersonal contact, marked delay in the acquisition and use of language, needed to maintain the routine and limitation with spontaneous activities. In general, the diagnostic Kanner parameters have been preserved. In accordance to the psychoanalytical theory, the act of playing is an extremely important element to the constitution of children’s subjectivity; since through this activity they might express their feelings and unconscious conflicts, giving them a new meaning. Among children with autism spectrum disorder, we have noted damages on the symbolic skill, and, as a result, a great difficulty on the development of recreational activities. This intervention aims to promote the development of emotional and cognitive abilities of autistic children.

This intervention aims to promote the development of emotional and cognitive abilities of autistic children.O autismo foi descrito pela primeira vez por Leo Kanner em 1943, tendo como principais critérios diagnósticos: inabilidade para o contato interpessoal, atraso acentuado na aquisição e no uso da linguagem e necessidade de manutenção da rotina e limitação de atividades espontâneas. Em linhas gerais os parâmetros de diagnóstico de Kanner foram preservados. De acordo com a teoria psicanalítica o brincar é um elemento de extrema importância para a constituição da subjetividade da criança, uma vez que por intermédio desta atividade ela pode expressar seus sentimentos e conflitos inconscientes, ressignificá-los e elaborá- los. Em crianças com transtorno de espectro do autismo, evidenciamos um prejuízo na capacidade simbólica e por consequência, uma grande dificuldade no desenvolvimento de atividades lúdicas.
