This study aimed at mapping scientific production on the topic of the commercialization of higher education in Brazil in the period 2000-2018, as well as: identify and present legislation on higher education in Brazil; present the current debate on the commercialization of higher education in Brazil and the right to education; and to present and analyze the mapping of scientific production on the subject in the period 2000-2018. For this purpose, the bibliographic research was used as a method for collecting data, through the study that was carried out during the mapping of scientific production. From the analysis of data it was possible to perceive that the transformation of higher education into a profitable economic sector facilitates access to higher education due to the numerous facilities and conditions of payment. On the other hand, the quality of the education offered and, consequently, the training of a professional trained to deal with the adversities of professional and personal life are not priorities. Finally, through the whole study, it was possible to confirm that the private higher educational market is very profitable, attracting more and more private investments. Because it is driven by market laws, profit is prioritized to the detriment of the quality of education and training
