Resumo: The objective of this paper is to reflect on the theoretical and methodological status of oral and written data as a source for investigating linguistic change phenomena. The per - spective we adopt here distances itself from a compartmentalized conception of oral and writ - ten texts writing since it is more closely associated with the writers’ relationship with historically and socially established practices of orality and literacy. We conducted an assessment of some of the specialized literature in order to gather arguments to defend the coexistence of written and oral enunciations, understood not as a form of interference, but as a constitutive blend, which, given its hybrid nature, enables the occurrence of the vernacular data, a locus of change also present in written records.

A perspectiva que defendemos se distancia de uma concepção compartimentada de fala e de escrita, e se aproxima de uma concepção fortemente fundada no trânsito dos escreventes pelas práticas sociais orais e letradas, instituídas sócio-historicamente. Procedemos a uma avaliação de parte da literatura especializada, com o propósito de reunir argumentos em favor da defesa de uma convivência entre os modos de enunciação falado e escrito, entendida não como uma interferência, mas como uma mistura constitutiva que, dada sua natureza híbrida, permite registro de estilo linguístico vernáculo, locus da mudança, também em registros escritos.El objetivo de este trabajo es reflexionar sobre el estatuto teórico-metodológico de los datos de orales y escritos como fuentes para investigaciones de fenómenos de cambio lingüístico. La perspectiva que defendemos se aleja de una concepción compartimentada del habla y la escritura y se acerca de un concepto fuertemente basado en el pasaje de los escribientes por las prácticas sociales orales y letradas, instituidas socio-históricamente.
