Resumo: | This work, developed in line Educational Processes and Language objetivoucompreender the importance of the role of storytelling in the construction of deaf identity. The theoretical framework that guided the investigative study were: Machado (2004 ), Karnopp (2006), Mourao (2012), Strobel (2008), Perlin (2010), Lopes (2011) and Lebedeff (2006), among others. However, more important than understanding the concepts is to understand how literature and is deaf is deaf as history was being passed from one generation to another. The research involved a group of fifth year of elementary school, consisting of ten students aged heterogeneous deaf and deaf educator in a public school, located in northern South Rio Grande. The research can be regarded as qualitative, whose method adopted was the case study. The research instruments were artistic productions of the participants, through drawings, with modeling clay creations and productions creative storytelling. These materials were collected in four meetings in workshops contações stories in sign language, which were presented in fairy tales, and reading transtextual image (LTI) as a means of understanding the creative productions. In this study it was realized that the deaf culture is constructed in three ways: the translation of classics for sign language, the adaptive and creative. We chose to work on two of them: the translation of the classic fairy tale to sign language and creative production, with the texts made by the participants. During the readings and workshops can understand the process that is established subjectively, through which culture is risen from the interaction between the deaf during contações stories and existential trajectory of deaf culture |

During the readings and workshops can understand the process that is established subjectively, through which culture is risen from the interaction between the deaf during contações stories and existential trajectory of deaf cultureEste trabalho, desenvolvido na linha de Processos Educativos e Linguagem, objetivou compreender a importância do papel da contação de histórias na construção da identidade surda.
