Social Representations of Family in the Context of Institutional Shelter

Resumo: The aim of this study was to identify the social representations of professionals who compose the network of support and assistance to children and adolescents in shelter institutions. The participants were five subjects members of a multidisciplinary team. For data collection was used the semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed from the proposal of thematic-categorical content analysis which allowed the construction of three categories: family concept; professional practices and the state’s role in assisting families. The analysis revealed the existence of two social representations; a family characterized by conflict and blamed for the problems of children and adolescents; and an ideal and harmonious family. These representations are reference for the actions of professionals who aim to guide families based on the idea of family restructuring, reconciliation and harmonization, neglecting the sociohistorical determinations and consequences of social inequality in the analysis and intervention with family groups.

Los participantes fueron cinco sujetos los miembros de un equipo multidisciplinario. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la entrevista semi-estructurada. Los datos fueron analizados a partir de la propuesta de análisis de contenido-temática categórica que permitió la construcción de trés categorías: el concepto de familia; prácticas profesionales y el papel del Estado en la asistencia a las familias. El análisis reveló la existencia de dos representantes de la familia; una familia caracterizada por el conflicto y culpado por los problemas de los niños y adolescentes; y una familia ideal y armonioso. Tales representaciones son de referencia para las acciones de los profesionales que buscan orientar a las familias sobre la base de la idea de la reestructuración de la familia, la reconciliación y la armonización, dejando de lado las determinaciones sociales y históricas y las consecuencias de la desigualdad social en el análisis y la intervención con grupos familiares.O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar as representações sociais de profissionais que integram a rede de apoio e assistência a crianças e adolescentes em acolhimento institucional sobre família. Participaram da pesquisa cinco sujeitos membros de uma equipe multiprofissional. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se a entrevista semiestruturada. Os dados foram analisados a partir da proposta da análise de conteúdo temático-categorial que permitiu a construção de três categorias: concepções de família, práticas profissionais e papel do Estado na assistência às famílias. As análises revelaram a existência de duas representações de família: uma caracterizada por conflitos e responsabilizada pelos problemas das crianças e dos adolescentes, e outra considerada ideal e harmônica.
