Becoming a teenager at the institutional care: Social educator’s perceptions

Resumo: Institutional care is a modality of substitute care used when the rights of children and adolescents are threatened or violated. The adolescents who live in substitute care are in a situation of fragility, considering that many have already experienced many risk situations, such as violence of all kinds. The objective of this study is to understand the perception of social educators’ perceptions about adolescents who live in institutional care. Nine social educators responded to an interview. The main results indicate that the challenges of educating adolescents are marked by the effects of both adolescence and experiences of past and current violence, search for the constitution of the identity lived with little social and emotional support, experience of risky behaviors.

El adolescente protegido se encuentra em uma situación de fragilidade, considerando que muchos ya han vivido muchas situaciones de riesgo, como violência de todo tipo. El objetivo de este estudio es comprender la percepción de los educadores sociales sobre los adolescentes que viven en acogimiento institucional. Nueve educadores sociales respondieron a una entrevista. Los principales resultados indican que los desafios de la educación de los adolescentes están permeado por los efectos tanto de la adolescência como de las vivencias de violencia pasada y actual, la búsqueda de la constitución de una identidad vivida con poco apoyo social y emocional, la vivencia de conductas de riesgo.O acolhimento institucional é uma modalidade de cuidado substituto utilizada quando os direitos da criança e do adolescente estão ameaçados. O adolescente acolhido está em situação de fragilidade considerando que muitos já vivenciaram muitas situações de risco, como violências de todos os tipos. O objetivo deste estudo é compreender a percepção dos educadores sociais sobre os adolescentes que moram em acolhimento institucional. Nove educadores sociais responderam a uma entrevista.
