Resumo: Diagnostic criteria are seen as related to the adopted theoretical model,  which defines  the concept of change  and  the technical strategies to be undertaken in a given psychotherapy. The author adopts the relational model with emphasis on interpersonal relationships. Considers that conflicts originate from  emotional experiences involving present and past objects that are perceived as unable to satisfy the subject’s necessity of love, dependence and recognition. The patient‘s adaptive resources,  the stage of change he has reached and  the kind of therapeutic alliance he was able to establish with his therapist, are seen as diagnostic criteria. A maladaptive relational pattern is the focus of the brief psychotherapy while its change to a  more adaptive  one  is its goal.

Editora Mackenzie2001-01-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttp://editorarevistas.mackenzie.br/index.php/ptp/article/view/1099Journal Psychology: Theory and Practice ; Vol. 3 No. 1 (2001); 43-51Revista Psicologia: Teoría y Práctica; Vol. 3 Núm. 1 (2001); 43-51Revista Psicologia: Teoria e Prática; v. 3 n. 1 (2001); 43-511980-69061516-3687reponame:Psicologia (Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie.
