Resumo: Contemporaneity can be considered in its complexity, including the variety of interpersonal relations being a landmark of our times. We live in a doubtful moment concerning family and social roles, turning not so defined. This study aims to discuss how men are adapting to these demands of contemporary world, more specifically when it comes to being a father. Starting on a systemic perspective, paternity is considered to be constructed in the inter-relation of macro and micro systemic aspects of the social-historic-cultural context where it is situated. In this perspective, the definition of man and father in contemporary days is noticed to be getting more elastic and diffuse. Today, elements that reinforce the maintenance of a traditional structure in relations coexist, being the mother the main responsible for the family, with others representing the demand related to a bigger inclusion and participation of men in the private and family life.

En este sentido, vivimos en un momento de dudas en relación a lo que es estar en el mundo, donde los papeles sociales y familiares están cada vez menos definidos. Así, este estudio discute como el hombre se está adaptando a estas transformaciones, especificamente en relación a ser padre. Utilizando el referencial sistémico de compresión de la realidad, que considera que la paternidad es construida en la interrelación de aspectos macro e micro-sistémicos del contexto social, histórico y cultural en que se encuentra, se percibe que la definición de padre en la época contemporánea se ha transformado en una época cada vez más elástica y difusa. Actualmente coexisten elementos que refuerzan la manutención de una estructura tradicional en las relaciones, siendo la madre la principal responsable por la família, y otros que atiendan a una demanda de mayor inclusión y participación del hombre en la vida privada.A contemporaneidade pode ser classificada pela complexidade, sendo a diversidade das relações interpessoais um dos marcos destes novos tempos. Nesse sentido, vivemos em um momento de dúvidas quanto ao ser e estar no mundo, onde os papéis sociais e familiares estão cada vez menos definidos. Assim, este estudo discute como o homem vem se adaptando a essas transformações, mais especificamente quanto ao ser pai. Utilizando o referencial sistêmico de compreensão da realidade, que considera que a paternidade é construída na inter-relação de aspectos macro e microssistêmicos do contexto socio-histórico-cultural em que se encontra, percebe-se que a definição de pai na contemporaneidade tem se tornado cada vez mais elástica e difusa.
