Resumo: Children with Down Syndrome (DS) show some lateness in getting motor skills that happen in differentiated time to kids with normal development. The main reasons for the lateness in motor development are because the own syndrome characteristics that can interfere in bulk motor activities and finals as the grip strength and manual dexterity. The grip strength analysis and manual dexterity can be considered one of the ways in manual function examination. The motor and sensorial tasks performed by hands are organized to attend the good general body working in practice terms in activities of diary life necessaries to the surviving. The objective of this study was to characterize the grip strength performance and manual dexterity in DS children in age between 7 and 9 years old. The DS group, composed by 26 children in both sexes and also, 30 no DS children composed the control group and they were arranged like the DS children, for age and sex. The valuations of the search subjects were done through the grip strength with dynamometer Jamar and Box and Block Test manual. The results showed that DS group had less practice to control group in grip strength and manual dexterity; there wasn t a significant relationship between grip strength and manual dexterity in DS group; in control group perceived there is a relationship between grip strength and manual dexterity; there wasn t practice difference among the kinds to evaluated items in both groups; the practice to grip strength tests and manual dexterity in control group showed an evolution in de course of age; in DS group, this evolution didn t occur; it was perceived the needing of accomplishment in new studies that getting more specified information about grip strength and manual dexterity in DS.hand strenght, motor skills.
