Resumo: | This study identifies how Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) IT service providers innovate. Innovation is seen as a primary source for companies and its innovative activity has been researched in Brazil, for example by the IBGE (2019) with the PINTEC report. However, there is a difference in the way to innovate according to the size of the company, as SMEs end up having more limited resources compared to large companies Mello, Machado and Jesus (2010). In order to better understand the phenomenon studied, we sought to identify, first, whether IT service providers SMEs have strategies for innovation, followed by how these companies innovate. With the results of the innovations carried out by these SMEs, the types of innovations carried out were verified, classifying them as product, process or both innovations, in order to identify how innovations occur in the scope of difficulties and stimuli to innovate. With an exploratory-descriptive type of research, the method adopted was qualitative, with data collection carried out through interviews with a semi-structured script, elaborated from predefined categories extracted from the literature on innovation strategies, mainly. Five company directors took part in the interviews, whose results show that companies fundamentally innovate through business partner customers under the incremental type of service innovation. Among the innovation strategies identified, the dependent, co-creation and open modalities were the ones that had the greatest prominence. Finally, the contributions of this study are applied in an applied way, in order to show that the innovative capacity of IT service providers SMEs depend on business-to-business interactions, and, consequently, on the innovation strategies of their customers, organizations with greater competitive capacity that are in contact with market demands and, therefore, greater potential for identifying strategic opportunities. |
