This study aimed to investigate the Chemistry teachers' conceptions of competences and situation-problem, subsequently, through workshops with teachers, to identify which competences they consider essential while working with situation-problem. The methodology involved two parts: application of questionnaire to ten Chemistry teachers, in order to investigate their conceptions of competences and situationproblem; and workshops with two teachers to identify the necessary competences in working with situation-problem. The results revealed that, in general, the teachers investigated have notions of the current concepts of competences and disregard concepts of situation-problem. In addition, it was possible to observe that the teachers know some National Curriculum Parameters, but not their concept of competence. The Chemistry teachers considered the importance so much of scientific as pedagogic competences. The study made possible the preparation, over the workshops, of two situation-problem examples, as well as the identification of some important competences for Chemistry teachers to work with this teaching tool. These competences suggest a teacher more human and with attitudes of collective construction of knowledge with their pupils.
