Resumo: | Bigeye is currently considered the most valuable target species of tuna longline fisheries in the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, the history of bigeye tuna longline fisheries in the Atlantic Ocean between the years of 1956-2012 was reviewed, and the relationships between bigeye tuna fishing core and environmental conditions and size composition were analyzed. Longline catch represents 64% of total catch in the period of 1956-2012. The Asian fleets are the main operating in the Atlantic Ocean, corresponding to 74% of the bigeye tuna catches. The main fleet operating is the Japanese with 1.1 million tons (47%), followed by China- Taipei and Korea with 19% and 8%, respectively. The Brazil occupies the 7th position regarding production (catch) of bigeye tuna, with approximately 49.000 t (2.2%). The relationship between capture and oceanographic conditions displayed better scenery in zones with SST between 24 - 26ºC, lower thickness of optimal temperature layer (~50 m) and when this top layer is located in the depths between 100 and 250 m. Others important characteristics defining the fishing grounds are: the top of thermocline depth occurring between 20 and 55 m, temperature of the top of thermocline depth between 24 and 25ºC and temperature of the base of thermocline between 17ºC and 19ºC. The bigeye tuna size (fork length) ranged from 40 to 222 cm with a mode value in the sizes class between 120 and 160 cm and mean size of 138.1 cm ± SD 28.9 cm. Proportions of immature bigeye tuna (< 110 cm) in the catches was approximately 0.18 for all data. However, proportions of immature for quarters showed greater value than 0.18, with the 3rd and 4th quarters presenting the bigger values, 0.20 and 0.24, respectively. Larger lengths were associated with SST between 23 and 27ºC, temperature of the base of thermocline better than 18.5ºC and top of the thermocline depth occurring between 20 and 45 m. The immature bigeye tuna are associated and occurred in the regions with high SST’s between 26 and 29ºC, temperature of the base of thermocline between 16 and 17.5ºC and temperature of the top of thermocline depth greater than 22ºC. |

Assim, a evolução da sua pescaria no Oceano Atlântico no período de 1956 a 2012 foi examinada, como também, a influência das variáveis oceanográficas na pesca e a frequência de comprimento dos espécimes capturados. A captura com o espinhel foi responsável por 64% do total capturado para o período. As frotas asiáticas são as principais atuantes no Atlântico, correspondendo a 74% das capturas da albacora bandolim, sendo a principal frota a Japonesa cerca de 1,1 milhões de toneladas (47%), seguida por China-Taipei com 19% e Coreia com 8%. O Brasil ocupa a 7ª posição em relação à produção (captura) da BET, com aproximadamente 49 mil t (2,2%). As capturas em relação aos fatores ambientais mostraram que o melhor cenário ocorre em zonas que apresentam TSM entre 24 e 26oC, menor espessura da camada de temperatura ótima (~50m) e quando o topo desta camada encontra-se em profundidades entre 100 e 250 m. Outras características térmicas consideradas importantes para definir as principais zonas de pesca da BET oceano Atlântico Tropical refere-se à estrutura da termoclina, ocorrendo capturas mais elevadas quando e onde a profundidade do topo situa-se entre 20 m e 55 m, a temperatura do topo varia de 24 a 25oC e a temperatura da base, de 17 a 19oC. A BET capturada apresentou Comprimento furcal (CF) entre 40 e 222 cm, sendo a moda nas classes de comprimento entre 120 e 160 cm, com média de CF de 138,1 cm ± 28,9 cm de desvio padrão. A proporção de peixes juvenis (< 110 cm) estimada em cerca de 0,18 do total capturado. Entretanto, a proporção de juvenis capturados por trimestre apresentou valores maiores que a média geral de 0,18. O 3o e o 4o trimestres apresentaram os maiores valores, 0,20 e 0,24 respectivamente. Os maiores espécimes estão associados às faixas de temperatura entre 23 e 27º C, a temperatura na base da termoclina acima de 18,5º C e a profundidades de topo da termoclina entre 20 e 45 m. Os especimes imaturos de BET estão associados a elevadas temperaturas de superficie do mar entre 26 e 29º C, a temperatura na base da termoclina entre 16 e 17,5ºC.
