Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different protein sources (soybean meal, cottonseed meal, cottonseed plus urea, and urea) associated with cactus pear on consumer characteristics, dry matter digestibility, nitrogen balance and ruminal parameters in sheep. We used 8 sheep adult male castrated without defined breed, rumen, weighing 62kg ± 6.83 kg, distributed in two Latin square 4 x 4. Each experimental period lasted 23 days, 16 (sixteen) to adapt the experimental diets and seven (7) data collection. Diets were formulated according to NRC (2007). Statistical analyzes were performed using the statistical package SAS (2001). There was a lower dry matter intake, organic matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber for animals submitted to a diet containing 2.6% urea. The digestibility of dry matter, crude protein and total carbohydrates decreased with treatment containing cottonseed plus urea. Nitrogen balance (Nretido / Nabsorvido) expressed in percentages were not affected by treatments. The pH and ammonia concentration for diets presenting media of pH 6.7, 6.7, 6.8, 6.8 and ammonia production 10.72, 10.70, 16.64, 16.87 mg / 100ml for treatments of soybean meal, cottonseed meal, cottonseed more urea and urea, respectively. A use of protein sources, ie soybean meal, cottonseed meal, cottonseed and urea can be displayed in association with the spineless levels studied. However, the cost of nitrogen sources will be instrumental in determining the most viable alternative in feed formulation.

However, the cost of nitrogen sources will be instrumental in determining the most viable alternative in feed formulation.Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de diferentes fontes proteicas (farelo de soja; farelo de algodão; caroço de algodão mais ureia; e ureia) associadas à palma forrageira sobre as características de consumo, digestibilidade da matéria seca, balanço de nitrogênio e parâmetros ruminais em ovinos. Utilizou-se 8 ovinos machos, adultos, castrados, sem padrão racial definido, fistulados no rúmen, com peso médio 62kg ± 6,83 kg , distribuídos em dois quadrados latinos simultâneos 4 x 4. Cada período experimental teve duração de 23 dias, sendo 16 (dezesseis) de adaptação às dietas experimentais e 7 (sete) de coletas de dados. Houve menor consumo de matéria seca, matéria orgânica, proteína bruta, fibra em detergente neutro e fibra em detergente ácido pelos animais submetidos à dieta, contendo 2,6% de ureia. O coeficiente de digestibilidade da matéria seca, proteína bruta e carboidratos totais foram menores na dieta contendo caroço de algodão mais ureia. O balanço de nitrogênio (Nretido/Nabsorvido), expressos em porcentagens, não foi influenciado pelos tratamentos experimentais. O pH e a concentração de nitrogênio amoniacal foram influenciados pelas dietas, apresentando médias de pH 6,7; 6,7; 6,8; 6,8 e produção de amônia 10,72; 10,70; 16,64; 16,87 mg/100ml para os tratamentos de farelo de soja, farelo de algodão, caroço de algodão mais ureia e ureia, respectivamente. Farelo de soja, farelo de algodão, caroço de algodão e ureia podem ser indicados na associação com a palma forrageira nos níveis estudados.
