Resumo: | The tomato plant is the second most economically important vegetable crop in the world. In Brazil cultivation occurs in different states and for most of the months of the year, thereby favoring the onset of many diseases of economic importance caused by viruses. Among the viruses considered to be limiting this culture stand out from those caused by geminivirus, responsible for considerable losses in production. The geminiviruses are transmitted very efficiently by the vector Bemisia tabaci, popularly known as whitefly. The high incidence of this disease in tomato plants is mainly due to the introduction and spread of the B biotype of the insect vector. One way to control geminivirus is the development of resistant cultivars, which features as one of the best strategies for spreading the infection. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the resistance to geminivirus in advanced lines and commercial hybrids of tomato plants in natural conditions in the field, in the area of Belem do Sao Francisco and agronomic development of these materials in Vitoria de Santo Antao. municipality. For this, there were two experiments, both under field conditions. The materials used in the experiments were derived from advanced lines of program improvement of UFRPE and IPA and commercial hybrids. The first experiment, under field conditions, was carried out in the IPA station of Vitória de Santo Antao. The experimental design was completely randomized with three replications and ten plants per plot. Factors research study were: total productivity, marketable productivity, non-commercial productivity and numbers of total fruits, numbers of commercial fruit and fruit numbers of discharges. The second experiment was conducted at the experimental station of the IPA in Belem do Sao Francisco. The materials used and the experimental design were also the same as described previously. Factors study were: to evaluate tomato lines and hybrids for resistance to begomoviruses, identify by molecular markers the Begomovirus species through PCR with specific primers and confirm the identity of amplified sequences by DNA sequencing. |
