"Patriotas Angolanos" : colonialismo, repressão, nacionalismo e guerra de libertação (1933-1977)

This dissertation studies the conflicts and relations between Portugal and Angola in the second half of the 20th century, especially between 1933 and 1977, regarding the decline of late colonialism and the rise of African nationalism. Beginning in the 1950s, liberation movements came with great force on Angolan soil in the quest for the independence of the Portuguese colonizer. Being threatened, Salazar's Portugal creates surveillance and repression devices to mitigate revolutionary actions. However, in the following decade, Angola would enter War. Initiated in 1961, the War of Liberation sought beyond political freedom, economic freedom and social freedom. Thus, for fourteen years, Angola was at war against Portuguese colonialism. On the other side, Portugal also suffered external problems with the practices adopted within the "possessions". The movements used these challenges to fight and emancipate Angola. As a methodology, this dissertation will work using analysis of documentation in the police archive of the Portuguese political police (PIDE) located in the National Archive of Torre do Tombo. In addition, we also worked on issues related to memory, literature and nationalism, since everyone in the War of Liberation, revolutionaries and settlers, sought the affirmation and reaffirmation of a nation.
