Narrativas e trajetórias de mulheres pescadoras : o discurso do Boletim O LEME

The aim of this dissertation is to identify and analyze narratives of a fisherwomen Catholic council, the so-called Conselho Pastoral dos Pescadores (CPP), represented by its newsletter LEME. This last deals with the demands and achievements of fisherwomen in the scope of gender category as well as to their intersections with categories such as race, class and empowerment. Therefore, my methodological proposal was based on the mapping and analysis of documents that encompass LEME documental collections. In total, there were 120 samples obtained next to the library of the council, considered my main source of secondary data. The research sought to identify news about local fisherwomen from the following questions: since when these women appear in the news? How often do they appear? Which are the reported subjects?LEME strategies of popular communication were also discussed from the theoretical and methodological approach of discourse analysis, with relevant notes to the criticism of the publication and its proposal to call for the center of the debate to the demands of fisherwomen and fishermen to build a popular narrative and emancipatory for this population. The analysis of LEME news displayed that there was a concern of CPP agents with the even more problematic conditions of fisherwomen. Thus, the research concluded that the news and considerations identified and mapped about these women present an institutional tendency to promote their demands for rights and occupation of power and decision-making spaces. The council assistance work certainly was a driver for political organizations and achievements of these fisherwomen. LEME newspaper was an important tool for the resonance and diffusion of these drives, although its Catholic rhetoric is reticent and at times has reinforced patriarchy. In any case, it is undeniable the contribution of both CPP and LEME for some achievements of women in the fishing scene, especially considering that the institution was present with assistance and advising activities exactly where the Government has been historically negligent.
