Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of root resorption in patients treated with self-ligating brackets by means of computed tomography cone beam imaging (CBCT). The sample of this research consisted of CT images of 20 patients with a mean age of 16 years and 5 months, 8 males and 12 females who hold the facial pattern I, class I, in permanent dentition with crowding upper and lower, with no extraction treatment indication. Initial CBCT images were taken (T1) before mounting the instrument and (T2) at the end of alignment and leveling wired 0.019 '' x 0.025 '' steel, where the average duration of treatment was 16.3 months (between T1 and T2). The degree of root resorption was measured by the root length to the cementoenamel junction both by the difference between T2 and T1. The CBCT images were analyzed by the InVivoDental Application 5.3.1 program by a single calibrated examiner. The test "t" test was used to analyze the alterations found before and after leveling, adopting a value of p <0.05. 73,75% of the teeth examined had some degree of root resorption. 61.87% had less than 1.0 mm resorption, 10.62% of 1.0mm to 2.0mm and only 1.25% had resorption of more than 2.0mm. 26.25% of the teeth showed no degree of resorption. Teeth resorption suffered most were the mandibular lateral incisors and the maxillary central. Based on the conducted study, our results show that the root resorption occurred statistically significantly so, and although they have been a constant, the amounts were low enough not to have clinical significance.

Submitted by Valquiria Tavares (valquiria.tavares@usc.br) on 2016-03-31T20:46:42Z No. of bitstreams: 1 dissertacao_ricardo_pinto.pdf: 4152208 bytes, checksum: 3f67d87304ab9e8f636305c19a5c219a (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-31T20:46:42Z (GMT). description The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of root resorption in patients treated with self-ligating brackets by means of computed tomography cone beam imaging (CBCT).
