Avaliação dos efeitos pós-cirúrgicos na perda de inserção óssea e radicular dos dentes anteriores, no tratamento descompensatório-cirúrgico das más oclusões do padrão face longa

The purpose of this study was to evaluate, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, the presurgical (decompensation) and postsurgical long-term effects on the buccal and lingual bone levels and root length of the maxillary and mandibular incisors. Sample comprised 8 (6 females and 2 males) long face subjects with a mean age of 34 years and 6 months, previously submitted to surgical-orthodontic treatment. Presurgical and postsurgical (mean, 2 years and 5 months) CBCT images were taken. Images were processed by using In Vivo Dental 5 software and measurements performed in the sagittal slice view. Cementoenamel junction and buccal alveolar bone level were used as reference points for measuring buccal alveolar bone level (NOAV). Cementoenamel junction and lingual alveolar bone level were used as reference points for measuring lingual alveolar bone level (NOAL). Cementoenamel junction and root apex were used as reference points for measuring root length (CR) Paired t tests were applied in order to assess presurgical and postsurgical changes with p <.05. Results showed a statistically significant decrease in the NOAV of the maxillary left central incisor. NOAL showed a statistically significant decrease in both maxillary and mandibular central incisors. CR showed a statistically significant decrease in maxillary right lateral incisor, maxillary right central incisor, maxillary left lateral incisor, mandibular right lateral incisor, mandibular right central incisor and mandibular left central incisor. The recognized negative effects of orthodontic decompensation phase with bone loss and root significant for the incisors, were not aggravated the period comprising surgery, post-surgical orthodontics and mediate post-treatment. Although some dental elements have decreased alveolar bone level lingual, alveolar bone level buccal and root length, measured in millimeters, we can consider these losses with low clinical significance.
