Resumo: | This article discusses the instrumentalization of Japanese soft power through the discourses broadcast about Japan and its relationship with neighboring countries in the reality show Ainori Love Van: Asian Journey (2017-2019) available on Netflix. For such, we focus on the case of Taiwan, one of the tourist destinations visited by participants in the first season. The research results show that the program tries to deconstruct the negative memory associated with Japanese imperialism, which started in the 20th century, as it reinforces the widely held idea that Japan is cool. |
