Resumo: This paper shows that the possibilities of growth for brazilian agriculture during the next ten years, with the three (of four) best economic scenarios used, are above the growth which ocurred during the eighties. In numbers, that means a possible agricultural growth in the interval 3,8%-5,3% per year, during the eighties average annual growth was 3,2%. The pessimistic scenario, on the contrary, gives an agricultural growth of only 2,2%. As a consequence of the possibility of higher agricultural growth, the paper concludes with the suggestion of shifting the priorities in agricultural policy, from short to medium-long run instruments.

Em números, isso significa um possível crescimento agrícola no intervalo 3,8%-5,3% ao ano, enquanto a década passada registrou3,2% ao ano, em média. O cenário pessimista, ao contrário, fomeceu um crescimento agrícola de apenas 2,2% ao ano. Como consequência da possibilidade efeliva de um maior crescimento agrícola, o paper enfatiza a necessidade de se alterar a política agrícola, na direção de instrumenlos de médio e longo prazos. Universidade de São Paulo.
