The authors studied the responses of young rats that were rehabilitated with diets containing protein of casein or meat after protein or calories deprivation. Animals that received limited amounts of high protein diets rehabilitated satisfactorily with casein or meat diets, and survival was of 100%. Among animals on a low-protein diet that were rehabilitated with casein or meat diet, only those that were fed with casein diet survived, in the mat group the mortality was 50%. The greates increase in body-weight was observed among animals that were rehabilitated with meat, but the mean bod-weight was lower that the controle group. All organs investigated, except pancreas, of animals that had been fed on a low-protein diet and rehabilitated on meat, grew more than the organs of animals on a high-protein diet in restricted amounts, rehabilitated on casein or meat.
