Analysis of humanistic theory and interpersonal relations of nurses in newborn care

Resumo: | Theories are propositions created to evaluate nursing care, allowing nurses to consider and incorporate them in their professional practice. This Masters study was aimed at thinking critically about the practical usefulness of the concepts of Humanistic Nursing Theory. This descriptive-reflexive study was carried out in 2004 and used Meleis' model for the analysis of theories. The "critique of theory" segment was taken from this model to be used as an analytical tool, with emphasis on the "usefulness" parameter. The critical analysis revealed the notorious "usefulness" of interpersonal relations and dialogue, which can be used in daily practice at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, valuing the human affective relations, which are essential for nursing care. Nursing practice should be guided by theoretical, philosophical, and methodological reference frameworks, responsible for making professionals reflect critically on themselves and their practice. |

La finalidad de este trabajo fue reflexionar críticamente sobre la utilidad práctica de los conceptos de la Teoría Humanística de Enfermería, mediante una disertación de maestría. Este estudio descriptivo-reflexivo fue realizado en 2004 y utilizó el modelo de análisis de teorías de Meleis. De este modelo, fue seleccionado el segmento "crítica de la teoría", con énfasis en el ítem "utilidad", para servir de soporte analítico. Del análisis crítico se deduce que la "utilidad" de la relación interpersonal y del diálogo es notoria y que estos pueden ser practicados en el cotidiano de la Unidad de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal, valorizando la relación humana afectiva, situación esencial en el acto de cuidar del enfermero. Se concluye que la práctica del enfermero debe estar orientada por referencias teóricas, filosóficas y metodológicas, responsables por llevar al profesional a una crítica reflexiva sobre el "ser" y el "hacer".As teorias são proposições elaboradas para avaliar a assistência de enfermagem, possibilitando às enfermeiras considerá-las e incorporá-las na prática profissional. O trabalho objetivou refletir, criticamente, sobre a utilidade na prática de conceitos da Teoria Humanística de Enfermagem, numa dissertação de mestrado. O estudo é descritivo-reflexivo, realizado em 2004, e utilizou o modelo de análise de teorias de Meleis. Desse modelo, foi recortado o segmento "crítica da teoria", com ênfase no item "utilidade", para servir de suporte analítico. Da análise crítica, percebeu-se que "utilidade" do relacionamento interpessoal e do diálogo é notório, e estes podem ser praticados no cotidiano da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal, valorizando a relação humana afetiva, situação essencial no ato de cuidar pelo enfermeiro. Conclui-se que a prática do enfermeiro deve ser norteada por referenciais teóricos, filosóficos e metodológicos responsáveis por levarem o profissional a uma crítica reflexiva do ser e do fazer.Universidade de São Paulo.
