Resumo: | In the 1962 text, the Soviet semiotician Yuri Lotman (1922-1993) analyzes the contact and the oppositional relations between the noble and peasant worldviews represented in the novel The Captain’s Daughter(1836), by Aleksandr Pushkin (1799-1837). According to Lotman, the novel exposes the internal rules concerning each side, how they repel each other, perpetuating the conflict between them, and how, for Pushkin, only humanist values – which would be above any class rules – would represent a solution to the problem. © Tallinn University, all rights reserved. © Tallinn University, all rights reserved.
