Non-formal spaces in science education: scientometric analysis of national academic productions of theses and dissertations (2011-2020)

Resumo: | The article analyzed academic productions linked to the use of non-formal spaces in science teaching developed with basic education, with students and/or teachers of Elementary School published in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, between 2011 and 2020. The data described in this research considered 17 academic productions, selected according to the analytical matrix and based on Scientometrics to analyze them. According to a study, academic productions showed a predominant profile applied in public institutions, concentrated in the Southeast region of the country. It focused on research of an applied nature, with a qualitative approach, and the main research methodology refers to qualitative research and case study. The aforementioned non-formal spaces focused on museums, parks, science centers, botanical gardens and zoos. The study showed that non-formal spaces have great potential for the development of previously planned pedagogical activities related to science teaching, contributing to more meaningful learning and more interesting classes. The scientometric synthesis suggests that there is still much to be done in terms of the number of productions strictu sensu, so that a more adequate articulation between formal and non-formal education in science teaching is possible, as well as the training needs of teachers. Thus, this study emphasizes that the more the production of knowledge about non-formal spaces is quantified and evaluated, the more one moves towards its optimization at all levels and modalities of the educational process, especially in Elementary School of Basic Education. |

Os dados descritos nesta pesquisa consideraram 17 produções acadêmicas, selecionadas de acordo com a matriz analítica e com base na Cienciometria para analisá-los. Conforme estudo, as produções acadêmicas apresentaram um perfil predominante aplicado em instituições públicas, concentradas na região Sudeste do País. Centrou-se na pesquisa de natureza aplicada, com abordagem qualitativa, e a principal metodologia de pesquisa se refere à pesquisa qualitativa e estudo de caso. Os espaços não formais citados se centraram em museus, parques, centros de ciências, jardins botânicos e zoológicos. O estudo evidenciou que os espaços não formais têm grande potencial para o desenvolvimento de atividades pedagógicas, previamente planejadas, relacionadas ao ensino de ciências, contribuindo com uma aprendizagem mais significativa e aulas mais interessantes. A síntese cienciométrica sugere que se tem muito a avançar no número de produções strictu sensu, de modo que viabilize uma articulação mais adequada entre a educação formal e a não formal no ensino de ciências, assim como a necessidade formativa dos docentes.
