Resumo: Thinking about teachers’ training is essential to create proposals that directly influence basic education. One of the most important issues on teachers’ training is to understand what drives the academics to choose the bachelor’s teaching degree course, considering the whole historical and social context of this profession. Several changes have happened due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including those related to the university context. Thus, given some motivations and the pandemic scenario, this paper aimed at understanding which factors are and how they influence the permanence of those academics from first year at a Public University of Paraná during the academic calendar interruption period in 2020. Data were generated from questionnaires answered by those bachelor’s academics from 2020. The analyzed material, based on Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA), has allowed the occurrence of two final categories: 1 - Reasons and Motivations to enroll in Higher Education and 2 - Impacts of the Pandemic on Academic Training. According to this research, we present the results of the first category, which showed that choosing the bachelor course is not directly associated with the teaching profession, but with a degree that is close to the academics’ affinities. This fact makes the teaching career a decision making from a certain academic maturity. The reputation of the studied educational institution is the key-point in determining such choice, since it is evident that the academics are sure of the institution quality where they will spend most of their academic training as a crucial point before deciding on the course.
