Popularization of science: accessibility to deaf visitors in Brazilian museums

Resumo: | This work aimed to understand how science popularization activities accessible to deaf visitors in Brazilian Museums and Science Centers occur. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire was conducted with 11 accessible museum spaces that present some type of accessibility to deaf visitors, analyzed using Lawrence Bardin's Content Analysis. Participants considered the importance of having a team fluent in Libras and / or the presence of an interpreter educator to provide assistance to deaf visitors, in addition to hiring deaf employees to expand the representation of this community. The need to develop activities accessible to this public was highlighted, which derives in part from the political and institutional will to carry out actions of inclusion and popularization of the Museum's actions for the deaf community. Three categories were identified that represent the importance of carrying out accessible popularization activities according to the participants and, with this, it was possible to recognize how Museums and Science Centers have promoted the inclusion of deaf people through Science Popularization activities, but it was recognized that the development of research in the area of inclusion of deaf in the field of Science still needs to be carried out, in addition to projects for the inclusion of this community in non-formal educational spaces, such as Museums and Science Centers. |

Para atingir esse objetivo, realizou-se um questionário com 11 espaços museais acessíveis que apresentam algum tipo de acessibilidade a visitantes surdos, analisados por meio da Análise de Conteúdo de Lawrence Bardin. Os participantes ponderaram a importância de ter uma equipe fluente em Libras e/ou a presença de um educador intérprete para realizar o atendimento dos visitantes surdos, além da contratação de funcionários surdos para ampliar a representatividade dessa comunidade. Destacou-se a necessidade de desenvolver atividades acessíveis a esse público, que deriva em parte da vontade política e institucional para realizar ações de inclusão e divulgação das ações do Museu para a comunidade surda.
