Resumo: This article aims to identify the bottlenecks in engineering education in Brazil addressingthe following research question: what are the bottlenecks in engineering education asperceived by engineers themselves? The research explores the range of possible answersposed by engineers engaged in higher education teaching based on 21 semi-structuredinterviews with faculty and academic administrators. The results show that there issignificant agreement in relation to bottlenecks in engineering education, such as:differences in education in private and public universities; low intensity in practicalexperience during training and rigidities of syllabus; the challenges of interdisciplarity;training in education for faculty; the internationalization of universities and ethics andsocial responsibility in engineering training. Public policies must address these bottlenecksif aiming to resolve problems in the quality of engineering training related to socialproblems, for the quantity of graduated engineers has grown significantly in Brazil sincethe mid-2000s.
