Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the health conditions and quality of life of elderly practicing functional training in a gym in the city of Maringá/PR, Brazil, that offers specific care to the elderly population.METHODS: The simple consisted of 50 elderly people practicing functional training at a Maringá/PR. The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire the WHOQOL-Bref and the WHOQOL-Old. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p<0.05)..RESULTS: The majority of the elderly have a good health perception (60.0%), consider health equal to that of other elderly persons of the same age (58.0%), take more than two medications regularly (46.0%), of falls (94.0%), practiced functional training by indication of friends / family (65.3%) and two to three times per week (90.0%). The elderly presented regular values in most domains and facets of quality of life (Md<16.0). The elderly of 60 to 70 years old (Md=14.0) had a higher score in the Intimacy facet (p<0.05) than the elderly with more than 70 (Md=13.0). There was no significant difference in the domains and facets of quality of life according to gender, marital status, retirement, time of functional training practice and weekly practice frequency (p>0.05).CONCLUSIONS: Elderly practitioners of functional training in the selected gym have good health perception, ingest significant amount of medication and have no history of falls. The quality of life in the intimacy domain is higher in the younger elderly. The quality of life in the intimacy domain is higher in the younger elderly.

The quality of life in the intimacy domain is higher in the younger elderly.OBJETIVO: Analisar as condições de saúde e a qualidade de vida de idosos praticantes de treinamento funcional em uma academia do município de Maringá/PR que oferece atendimento específico a população idosa.MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por 50 idosos praticantes de treinamento funcional em uma academia de Maringá/PR. Os instrumentos utilizados para a coleta de dados foram: um questionário sociodemográfico, o WHOQOL-Bref e o WHOQOL-Old. A análise dos dados foi conduzida por meio dos testes de Shapiro-Wilk, de Mann-Whitney e de Kruskal-Wallis (p<0,05).RESULTADOS: A maioria dos idosos possui percepção de saúde boa (60,0%), considera a saúde igual a de outros idosos da mesma idade (58,0%), toma mais de dois medicamentos regularmente (46,0%), não teve histórico de quedas (94,0%), praticava o treinamento funcional por indicação de amigos/família (65,3%) e com frequência de duas a três vezes por semana (90,0%). Os idosos apresentaram valores regulares na maioria dos domínios e das facetas de qualidade de vida (Md<16,0). Os idosos de 60 a 70 anos (Md=14,0) apresentaram maior escore na faceta Intimidade (p<0,05) do que os idosos com mais de 70 (Md=13,0). Não houve diferença significativa nos domínios e nas facetas de qualidade de vida em função do sexo, do estado civil, da aposentadoria, do tempo de prática do treinamento funcional e da frequência semanal da prática (p>0,05).CONCLUSÕES: Os idosos praticantes de treinamento funcional na academia selecionada possuem boa percepção de saúde, ingerem quantidade significativa de medicamentos e não possuem histórico de quedas.
