Resumo: | OBJECTIVE: To compare the QoL of a group of elderly people who are part of the UniAvangélica Open University Program for Unmarried Senior Citizens (UniAvangélica, Anápolis - Goiás), with non - exercising individuals.METHODS: The SF-36 abbreviated quality of life questionnaire was applied to 120 participants of the UniATI project of both genders (≥60 years), being bodybuilders (n=30), rhythms (n=30), water aerobics (N=30) and the control group (CG) (n=30). Statistical analysis was performed by the Mann-Whitney test, adopting the level of significance of p≤0,05.RESULTS: The quality of life domains had significant differences between the groups functional capacity (p≤0,001), physical aspects (p≤0,048), pain variable (p≤0,032) and general health status (p≤0,001). When comparing the other variables, there were no significant differences between the groups. Vitality and social aspects were classified as borderline in all groups, without significant differences. On the other hand, the economic aspects of the physically active groups were classified as above the average compared to the CG. The mental health of all the elderly was classified as below average.CONCLUSIONS: Elderly people who practice some physical activity of the UniATI program were better when compared to the sedentary elderly, suggesting that physical exercise can be a determining factor for a good quality of life for the elderly. And among the modalities studied in the UniATI program, the Ritmos modality was the one that presented the best results. |
