Health-related quality of life in valvular heart disease: limits and possibilities for a specific assessment of the construct

OBJECTIVE: To present studies that have used Valve-specific and its variations to assess Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) as a complement to the assessment using generic instruments that measure the construct.METHODS: This is a survey on the use of Valve-specific available in the literature, through Google Scholar, which culminated in the presentation of the questionnaires in different versions and their respective theoretical frameworks adopted.RESULTS: Eight studies were found that used the Valve-specific, in different versions, combined with the measurement of the HRQoL construct through generic scalar instruments, anchored in different references, but highlighting questions aimed at evaluating the construct in individuals who have undergone valvular prosthesis implantation, regardless of the type of implanted prosthesis.CONCLUSIONS: Due to the lack of specific scalar instruments that measure the HRQoL of patients with valvular heart disease undergoing valve prosthesis implantation, the elaboration and demonstration of evidence of validity of a specific measurement instrument for the assessment of HRQoL in the population in question becomes emergent.
