Psychosocial experience of the hemophilia: population characteristics that affect quality of life

OBJECTIVE: To identify the factors that influence the quality of life of young men with haemophilia accompanied by the Regional Blood Center of Ribeirão Preto.METHODS: This quantitative and exploratory study had its data collection carried out at the Regional Blood Center of Ribeirão Preto, being your sample composed of 30 men with haemophilia, aged 18 and 35 years. The instruments used were an Identification form and the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaires in its abbreviated form (WHOQOL-Bref) and Haemophilia Quality of Life Questionnaire for Adults (Haem-A-QoL). The results were statistically examined as of descriptive analyses, in addition to performing correlations using Pearson's Coefficient (r) and the Quadrant Technique.RESULTS: Most participants they were single, did not have children, worked, had a history of haemophilia in the family, has haemophilia A and severe, performed self-infusion and prophylactic treatment. The physical domain had the lowest score on both questionnaires and the factors with the greatest influence on quality of life were family income and schooling.CONCLUSIONS: Social inequality is the important marker that influences the perception of quality of life of young haemophiliac men assisted by the Regional Blood Center of Ribeirão Preto.
