Dietary habits and quality of life of patients with sickle cell disease

Resumo: | OBJECTIVE: To analyze the dietary habits and quality of life of patients with sickle cell anemia.METHODS: This study is an epidemiological survey that aimed to assess the dietary habits and quality of life of 21 patients with sickle cell disease participating in the Sickle Cell Anemia Program in Guanambi/BA. Data were collected using the SF-36, PNS, and a sociodemographic questionnaire, and analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistical software, version 23.0.RESULTS: The study population had a mean age of 36.3 years. Among these patients, 42.9% demonstrated good dietary habits, while 57.1% had poor dietary habits. Among the variables studied, it was observed that male individuals, black individuals, those with higher education, without partners, without children, and unemployed tended to have good dietary habits. Furthermore, those who achieved higher levels of quality of life in the analyzed domains, except for the general health domain, also exhibited good dietary habits.CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with sickle cell anemia have poor dietary habits, and these habits can influence their quality of life. |

Os dados foram coletados por meio dos questionários SF-36, Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde (PNS) e sociodemográfico; e, foram analisados utilizando o programa estatístico IBM SPSS, versão 23.0.RESULTADOS: A população estudada apresentou a média de idade de 36,3 anos. Dentre esses pacientes, 42,9% demonstraram ter bons hábitos alimentares, enquanto 57,1% apresentaram hábitos alimentares ruins. Entre as variáveis estudadas, observou-se que indivíduos do sexo masculino, negros, com maior escolaridade, sem parceiros, sem filhos e sem emprego tendiam a ter bons hábitos alimentares.
