Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To look into the strategies of emotional regulation used by health care and education professionals, as well as how these strategies are linked to quality of life and levels of hope.METHODS: Correlational survey using psychological assessment scales in order to obtain data from the sample, namely: Emotional Regulation Profile; the World Health Organization Quality of Life assessment (WHOQOL); the Hope Index; and the Adult Dispositional Hope Scale. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, the statistical analysis was run by a BioEstat software version 5.3, and the qualitative analysis was carried out in a comprehensive perspective when it comes to the meaning of the statistical result through the theory that supported the research.RESULTS: There were, among health care and education professionals, 99 participants. In the sample it was possible to observe prior positive levels of adaptive emotional regulation strategies, positive quality of life score, high levels of cognitive hope (altruism subscale), below average levels of cognitive hope (self-centered subscale), and above average levels (dispositional hope scale). As for the correlations, only one positive medium correlation was found between the variables emotional regulation and dispositional hope.CONCLUSIONS: The hypothesis of this study was partially confirmed, as there were a predominance of adaptive emotional regulation strategies. However, such correlations are not able to show that the participants’ emotional regulation profile impacts on the other variables analyzed, except on the levels of dispositional hope.
