Resumo: This study brings the results of a research about the school education in the community of islanders of Ilha Rasa, northern Paraná. This community has a population of approximately 700 inhabitants that survives basically on fishing and cultivating oysters. The study reveals the relationship between the school and the community of fisherman. The school on this island receives students from Elementary and High school along with students from adult education. The first four classes of Elementary school are taught together, by the same teacher and in the same classroom. The methodology is qualitative, and it’s an ethnographic type of study in education. The techniques used to collect data were participant observation, semi structured interview and documentary analysis. The registrations of the interviews and observations were both photographic and manuscript. This study exposes the opportunities and barriers to establish an education that provides links between the world of school and community life in this world of islanders. The theoretical intakes were based especially on the works of Arroyo (1999), Diegues (1983, 2004), Gramsci (1995), Marx (2008) and Saviani (2007, 2008). These are authors who help building an important theoretical framework needed in the context of education. The findings revealed a scenario in which school culture and work are connected, although the search results also showed that there is a necessity to undertake education appropriate to the Islanders, human growth, social, political and economical. This debate has integrated the agenda of education in the state of Paraná, and the concerns expressed by the social movements. It’s important to register the concern of the teachers from this community with the construction of a school education linked to the life on the island, however with several challenges to overcome a traditional culture and a routine in the school, historically institutionalized.

Submitted by Divanete Paiva (divanete.paiva@utp.br) on 2018-07-27T18:05:22Z No. of bitstreams: 1 UM SITIO NO.pdf: 76879310 bytes, checksum: abac5015728f515bc16e50fe0ea15e56 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-27T18:05:22Z (GMT).
