Resumo:  The aim of this article is to consider the social representation of the Afro-Brazilians in the Portuguese language school textbook. After analyzing three collections of textbooks, focusing on texts and pictures, we noticed that the Afro-Brazilians are represented in this learning material. However, the consideration of a fictional Afro-Brazilian, constructed by the social discourse, like characters of literature books for children or of the folklore, is what really predominates in these textbooks.

Depois de analisar três coleções didáticas, tendo por enfoque tanto o texto verbal como o não-verbal, verificamos que os afro-brasileiros são retratados nesse material escolar, porém a consideração de um afrodescendente fictício, produto do discurso social, como é o caso de personagens da literatura infanto-juvenil ou do folclore brasileiro, é o que realmente predomina.
