This work shows a critical reading on the contents of a film which portraysracial prejudice. it aims to answer the following question: how can films, when portraying social conflicts coming from racial laws, contribute to train better prepared and morecapable teachers in dealing with racism and prejudice in the classroom? Then, the film“sarafina o som da liberdade” has been chosen as a research source with the purpose ofanalyzing the cultural, economic, social and political aspects in Africa. Thus, an analysismethodology has been suggested built upon the cultural studies’ scholars. The use of thisfilm in the classroom, in that perspective, may open our comprehension to the logic ofdomination through racial segregation, and also, contribute to provide actions concerningthe valorization and the recognition of the African and African-descendant histories andcultures.
