AFRICAN CULTURE ON THE CINEMA: CRITICAL READING OF THE RACISM IMAGE ON TEACHER´S FORMATION

Resumo: | This work shows a critical reading on the contents of a film which portraysracial prejudice. it aims to answer the following question: how can films, when portraying social conflicts coming from racial laws, contribute to train better prepared and morecapable teachers in dealing with racism and prejudice in the classroom? Then, the film“sarafina o som da liberdade” has been chosen as a research source with the purpose ofanalyzing the cultural, economic, social and political aspects in Africa. Thus, an analysismethodology has been suggested built upon the cultural studies’ scholars. The use of thisfilm in the classroom, in that perspective, may open our comprehension to the logic ofdomination through racial segregation, and also, contribute to provide actions concerningthe valorization and the recognition of the African and African-descendant histories andcultures. |

Busca responder a seguinte questão: de que maneira o cinema, aomostrar os conflitos sociais gerados pelas leis raciais, pode contribuir para formarprofessores mais preparados e capazes de lidar com o racismo e o preconceito na sala deaula? Neste sentido, foi selecionado o filme: “Sarafina o som da liberdade”, como fonte depesquisa, com o objetivo de investigar os aspectos culturais, econômicos, sociais e políticosda África, a fim de propor uma metodologia de análise fílmica, com base nos EstudosCulturais.
