Resumo: This work aims to show as occurs the construction of the heroic image of Barack Obama for mean of the mythical speech. Thus, it is analyzed the editorial of the American Journal The New York Times that was published in November, 5, 2008. The theoretical base to this study supports mainly in ELIADE (2001 : 2007), that argument that prevalence some traces of the conduct of archaic man same in the technological era, and BARTHES (2007) to whom the myth in present is a speech. It is observed that the analyzed editorial  is used mythical representations to the construction of the Barack Obama political identity during the American elections in 2008, seeking configure about him the image of the hero. In this sense, it is pointed the media as mean that produce and propagate mythological archetypes in the contemporary society.

Como corpus da pesquisa, tem-se o editorial do Jornal americano The New York Times, publicado no dia 5 de novembro de 2008. A base teórica para este estudo respalda-se principalmente em ELIADE (2001 ; 2007), que afirma que, mesmo na era tecnológica que se vive, há prevalência  de alguns traços da conduta do homem arcaico e, BARTHES (2007) para quem o mito na atualidade é uma fala. Observa-se que o editorial analisado se utiliza de representações míticas para a construção da identidade política de Barack Obama durante as disputas eleitorais americanas de 2008, buscando configurar sobre ele a imagem do herói.
