Resumo: The present article focuses the performance of Villa-Lobos as manager of the Orpheonic Singing in Brazilian education. The main quest presented is: how did Villa-Lobos implant and consolidate the Orpheonic Singing in Brazilian education? Regarding the methodology and the historical insertion of this work, it’s provided a documental base consisting mainly in: personal correspondences of Villa-Lobos; official and unofficial documents from agencies such as the Secretariat of Education and Health of the Federal District and the Ministry of the Education and Health; laws, decrees and scientific papers. These documents and sources can be found in the Library of the Villa-Lobos Museum, the Center of Research and Documentation of the Contemporary History of Brazil of the Foundation Getúlio Vargas and the Division of Music and Sonorous Archive of the National Library of Rio de Janeiro. The found data, according to analysis, indicates significant administrative strategies to take care of the main population in the Orpheonic Singing management, this parcel of the population, which comprises mainly common workers and proletarians, was at the government’s spot at that period. One perceives that Villa-Lobos imprinted a great growth of music in formal education. In this direction, the manager in question did political articulation in the context of the Era Vargas, established priorities in the pedagogical sphere of the project and invested significantly in the teachers’ training.

Apresenta-se como principal indagação: de que forma Villa-Lobos implantou e consolidou o Canto Orfeônico na educação brasileira? Destaca-se, como justificativa, o contexto da volta da música como componente curricular pela aprovação unânime da Lei 11.796/2008 que dispõe sobre a obrigatoriedade dessa arte na Educação Básica em forma de disciplina e que altera a lei nº. 9.394, de 1996, conhecida como Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional (LDBEN). Quanto à metodologia, a contextualização histórica desse trabalho teve como base documental correspondências pessoais de Villa-Lobos, documentos oficiais e extra-oficiais de órgãos como a Secretaria de Educação e Saúde do Distrito Federal e do Ministério da Educação e Saúde, além de decretos, leis e artigos de periódicos. Os resultados da investigação indicam no Canto Orfeônico estratégias políticas e sociais vinculadas aos ideais do governo vigente no período. Percebe-se que o Maestro deslumbrava um crescimento significativo da música no ensino formal. Nesse sentido, o gestor em questão articulou politicamente no contexto da Era Vargas estabelecendo prioridades na esfera cívica.
