Resumo: This quantitative and qualitative retrospective documentary study had the goal of identifying the main characteristics and demands of patients seeking family psychotherapy. The sample included 67 families who sought care at a teaching clinic in the south of Brazil between 2017 and 2020. The data were collected from screening forms and submitted to descriptive analysis and content analysis. The results cover three categories: family and sociodemographic variables; clinical history and process of seeking help; and problem presented. The predominant profile was social class C families, with intact arrangement, who have small children or adolescents and also have at least one member with mental health problem, emphasizing on mood disorders. Most families were referred by friends or health professionals, after undergoing other treatments, that were often accompanied by the use of medication. The most recurring complaints were dissatisfaction with the family relationship, concern about the psychological condition of a member of the family group or difficulties in parenting. The results point out some pillars that should be thought by scientists and professionals interested in understanding contemporary families. The findings also assist in the design of training courses curricula and in the planning of prevention and intervention strategies, contributing to the theoretical update and the evolution of clinical practice.

Unisinos2022-05-23info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/contextosclinicos/article/view/2291610.4013/ctc.2022.151.01Contextos Clínicos; v. 15 n. 1 (2022): Jan-Abr1983-3482reponame:Contextos Clínicosinstname:Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)instacron:Unisinosporhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/contextosclinicos/article/view/22916/60749066Copyright (c) 2022 Contextos Clínicosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessKnewitz, Anna PaulaGonçalves Boeckel, Mariana2022-05-23T12:37:18Zoai:ojs2.revistas.unisinos.br:article/22916Revistahttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/contextosclinicosPUBhttps://revistas.unisinos.br/index.php/contextosclinicos/oaidfalcke@unisinos.br||periodicos@unisinos.br1983-34821983-3482opendoar:2022-05-23T12:37:18Contextos Clínicos - Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS)false
