This Course Conclusion Paper was conducted through bibliographic and documentary research, focusing on the theme of working in slave-like conditions in Brazil. The basic question for the development of the study was related to its incidence and the means to eradicate this kind of crime still existing in the country. The general objective was to refer to the means of combating crime provided for in Article 149 of the Brazilian Penal Code. This research presented a brief history that allowed the comparison with the current situation of the neo-slave. Steps have been taken by governmental and non-governmental entities to uproot the crime of subjecting someone to slave-like status in our country. In conclusion, it is sad to see that the country has no state entity to assist the contemporary enslaved after the liberation of the slave regime. This generates a cycle, since the slave, being of low class or incomplete education, does not have the desired opportunities, needing to subsist. Therefore, the research made it possible to conclude that, although there are several initiatives directed at the prevention and repression of slave labor, they are still insufficient and need to be improved.
