The present study addresses the reception process made by Brazil and Colombia in the specific case of Venezuelan refugees. The reasons that led Venezuelans to leave their home and go to the countries studied were identified. Among the main reasons are the economic crisis that plagues the country, which culminated in a supply crisis unprecedented in modern Latin American history, coupled with a political crisis, which divided the population and increased the rates of violence in the country. The standards of international protection of refugees, including the asylum institution, the 1951 Convention and the Cartagena Convention, which modernized the concept of the classic refugee, were addressed. In the development of the research, it was firstly demonstrated how each country applied the international norms that characterize an individual as a refugee, and later presented the main public policies of each country aimed at welcoming and integrating Venezuelans in each country. It can be concluded that in terms of the creation of reception policies, Colombia has a series of norms and decrees at national level, making the country more attractive to Venezuelans. Regarding Brazil, it can be seen that the Operation Welcomed, carried out in the state of Roraima, was a success, but in relation to other host programs at the national level, it was found that Brazil does not have any rules that legislate on the subject. The research in relation to the level was exploratory, the qualitative approach, and the research procedure occurred through the bibliographic analysis, which includes doctrines, texts of law, diplomatic documents, newspaper articles and so on. The following work was divided into five chapters: Introduction, Political and Economic Aspects of the Venezuelan Crisis, International Refugee Law, Analysis of Public Policies Developed by Brazil and Colombia in the Case of Venezuelan Refugees, and Conclusion.
