Teacher training and competencies in the light of Freirean theories

Educators and researchers are aware of the importance of teacher training and the development of skills necessary for pedagogical practice. Paulo Freire, addresses in his works, the importance of a liberating and emancipating education and brings the construction of a liberating educational thought, capable of transforming any citizen into a critical thinker, able to question the world and the society in which he is inserted. The present work is characterized as a bibliographical study through the main works of Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1968), Education as a Practice of Freedom (1967), Importance of the Act of Reading (1981), Pedagogy of Hope (1992) and Pedagogy of autonomy (1996). The objective was to reflect on the teaching skills focused on the teacher's pedagogical practices in the classroom. It is inferred that despite the term teaching competence being more technically used, Paulo Freire dealt with this theme within his works in a humanized and humanizing way, essential to the constitution of teaching knowledge and their actions with students.
