Summary: Case studies have been implemented as a practice for teaching and evaluation in the discipline of Public Health at the Dental School of UNIVALI, together with Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine and Nutrition courses. The aim of this study was to report on the operationalization of a case study experience in teaching, evaluation, and integration in teaching-public service. The proposal was structured according to four stages, namely: meeting of public health professors, teaching planning, implementation of activities, and socialization by way of seminars. The results were presented in two ways: through the informal qualitative performance of the groups with presentations of seminars, and through a formal quantitative evaluation of the portfolios presented as facilitators of the learning process throughout the period. The results suggested that case studies can be an excellent tool for teaching, evaluation, curriculum integration, and integration of teaching-public service. To this end, the proposed actions must necessarily be taken, the lack of which may compromise the whole process, failing to contribute to the effective promotion of health of the families involved in these case studies.

O objetivo desse estudo é relatar a operacionalização de uma experiência de estudos de caso como forma de ensinagem, avaliação, integração curricular e de ensino-serviço público. A estruturação da proposta aconteceu em quatro etapas, sendo: encontro dos professores da área da saúde coletiva; planejamento docente; aplicação das atividades; e socialização no formato de seminários. Os resultados foram apresentados de duas formas: uma qualitativa informal através do desempenho em grupo nas apresentações dos seminários; e uma quantitativa formal através da avaliação dos portfolios que se apresentaram como facilitadores do processo de aprendizagem ao longo do período. Os resultados sugerem que os estudos de caso podem ser uma excelente ferramenta para ensinagem, avaliação, integração curricular e de ensino-serviço público.
