Resumo: | Dental specialization programs in our country have been analyzed since the establishment of stricto sensu graduate courses. Analyzing various professions, the development of specialization courses with the diversification of specialties is observed only in Dentistry. With the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education – LDB (Law n. 9.394, of 02/20/1996), there were significant legislative efforts about organization and evaluation of higher education and regulations about accreditation, functioning, registration and attributed value to accreditation of lato sensu courses. Since specialization courses prepare professionals to the market and also provide human resources to teaching, we emphasize the need for connecting these courses to the pedagogical project of any given dental school, in agreement with the National Curricular Guidelines for Undergraduate Dental Courses in Brazil. Among many suitable studies, those of increased importance are the ones involving the concept of integrated health; preventive aspects and aspects regarding the promotion of health; introduction to more significant knowledge of bioethics, research and teaching methodologies and methodology for the elaboration of a thesis; on-line education; some area specificities like Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The revision of the proposal of specialization courses should also be in accordance with the legislation regarding the evaluation of higher education. The Brazilian Association of Dental Education (ABENO) offered the Ministry of Education a proposal called “Verification Instrument of Specialization Courses”. The new post-LDB educational times urge the need for discussion and reflections in academic circles about specialization teaching. |
