DSM-5 changes diagnostic criteria for specific learning disabilities: reading and writing

Resumo: The new version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published in 2013, brought important changes to the classification of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially specific learning disorders. This paper critically describes the differences found in the latest version compared to 4th edition (DSM-IV). Overall, there were changes in relation to diagnostic criteria, in the terminology employed, as well as in the important recommendation to use the response to intervention paradigm to confirm diagnostic hypotheses of specific learning disorders, like dyslexia.

O presente trabalho descreve criticamente as diferenças encontradas na versão mais recente em comparação à 4ª edição (DSM-IV).
