Resumo: | Introduction: The viral disease called COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, began its infectious course across China in December 2019 and led the WHO to declare a global pandemic status on January 30, 2020, drastically affecting physical and mental health. Parallel to this picture, burnout syndrome has a high incidence among health professionals, especially in the face of adverse working conditions, among which we can highlight a recently discovered viral pandemic with such infectivity power as SARS-CoV-2 -two. Objective: This research aimed to analyze the characteristics and prevalence of burnout present in professionals working in reference hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 and to propose coping ideas. Method: The research comprises two stages: 1- initial assessment and 2- final assessment. A systematized questionnaire with 40 questions was applied to professionals in the area. Result: Among the 96 interviewees in the initial assessment, according to the predictors indicated by the Study and Research Group on Stress and Burnout Syndrome, only 32 physicians scored within the levels that suggest Burnout (Low, Medium, and High), with the “Medium” level of the three dimensions analyzed (Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, Personal Fulfillment) was the most prevalent. Conclusion: In this context, the characterization of Burnout Syndrome in health professionals is of fundamental importance for designing strategies to promote mental health and quality of life for these professionals, who are subjected to a high workload and the various negative feelings observed. |
