Resumo: | This article explores how the Joint Brazil-United States Economic Development Commission (JBUSEDC) (1951-1953) mirrored the conceptions of Harry Truman’s Point Four program(1945-1953). Based on Brazilian and American archives, this study demonstrates that, reflecting Point Four’s premises, the JBUSEDC coordinated the multiple activities of this program in Brazil, postulated that private investments should have a primary role on promoting development, and reflected US concerns on Cold War international security issues. Indeed, the US made efforts to align JBUSEDC’s development projects with their need to grant access to Brazilian strategic materials. |

The Joint Brazil-United States Economic Development Commission (JBUSEDC) (1951-1953) in the light of Truman’s Point Four program (1949)La Comisión Mixta Brasil-Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Económico (CMBEU) (1951-1953) a la luz del Programa Punto Cuatro (1949) del gobierno de TrumanA Comissão Mista Brasil-Estados Unidos para o Desenvolvimento Econômico (CMBEU) (1951-1953) à luz do Programa Ponto Quatro (1949) do governo Truman This article explores how the Joint Brazil-United States Economic Development Commission (JBUSEDC) (1951-1953) mirrored the conceptions of Harry Truman’s Point Four program(1945-1953).
