Resumo: The article analyzes the content of education for global citizenship (UNESCO), questioningthe transformative perspectives announced and “pitfalls” contained in the text. It is madefrom a critical perspective, adding to the tradition of Marxism (especially Wood andMészáros), the peripheral and “decolonial” standpoint, highlighting the contributions ofPazello and Freire. It argues that, in the context of educational reformism, EGC is reducedto neoliberal discourse, an instrument of imperialism/coloniality, in the globalizationof capitalism. The article rejects this proposal and brings contributions to the reflectionon “emancipating” possibilities, through the decolonial critical and “tactical” use of thelanguage of education, human rights and democracy.

Esto, desde una perspectiva crítica, sumando a la tradición del marxismo(especialmente Wood y Mészáros), la mirada “decolonial” y periférica, destacando losaportes de Pazello y Freire. Argumenta que, en el contexto del reformismo educativo, laECG se reduce al discurso neoliberal, instrumento del imperialismo/colonialidad, en laglobalización del capitalismo. Rechazando esta propuesta, el artículo trae aportes a lareflexión sobre las posibilidades “emancipadoras”, con el uso decolonial, crítico y “táctico”del lenguaje de la educación, los derechos humanos y la democracia.O artigo analisa o conteúdo da educação para a cidadania global (UNESCO), questionando perspectivas transformadoras anunciadas e “armadilhas” contidas no texto. Isso, a partir da perspectiva crítica, somando à tradição do marxismo (em especial, Wood e Mészáros), o olhar “descolonial” e periférico, destaque às contribuições de Pazello e Freire. Argumenta que, no quadro de reformismo educacional, a ECG reduz-se a discurso neoliberal, instrumento do imperialismo/colonialidade, na globalização do capitalismo.
