“Burn the witch”: Media operations in the moral crusade against “gender ideology” in Brazil

Resumo: This article examines media operations of the #ForaButler event to understand the fabrication of the moral crusade against “gender ideology” in Brazil. The objective is to reflect on these operations through the traces materialized in the digital networks. The research includes three methodological movements: contextualization of the “gender ideology” notion, identification of the event problematic field, and reconstruction of operations. The analysis points out that, in the contemporary moral crusade, the public condemnation of the witch and her execution at the stake operate in the reconfiguration of public moral arenas, in the need to convert moral capitals and in the speed of production and circulation in digital networks.

Se realizaron tres movimientos metodológicos: contextualización de la noción de “ideología de género”, identificación del campo problemático del acontecimiento y reconstrucción de operaciones. El análisis señala que, en la cruzada moral contemporánea, la condena pública de la bruja y su ejecución en la hoguera operan en la reconfiguración de los escenarios morales públicos, en la necesidad de convertir los capitales morales y en la velocidad de producción y circulación en redes digitales.Este artigo examina operações midiáticas do acontecimento #ForaButler para compreender a fabricação da cruzada moral contra a “ideologia de gênero” no Brasil. O objetivo é refletir sobre essas operações através dos rastros materializados nas redes. Realizam-se três movimentos metodológicos: contextualização da noção de “ideologia de gênero”, identificação do campo problemático do acontecimento e reconstrução das operações.
